The motoring writers at The Sunday Times, The Times, Driving.co.uk and The Sun have presented the Porsche 911 with top prizes in the annual News UK Motor Awards. The 911 Sport Classic was crowned Car of the Year by The Sunday Times, while the 911 model range won The Legend Award from The Sun.
These latest recognitions for the rear-engined sports car from Stuttgart come in the year in which the 911 celebrates its 60th anniversary and Porsche itself celebrates 75 years of building sports cars.
The 911 Sport Classic model is a product of Exclusive Manufaktur, the team focused on the personalisation of Porsche models, and revives the style of the 1960s and early 1970s. Its appearance resembles the original 911, produced from 1964 to 1973, and – in particular – the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7 with its ‘duck-tail’ rear spoiler.
"To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the timeless 911, Porsche has built a retro version and it’s so good it has roared away with our overall Car of the Year prize”, said Nick Rufford, motoring editor, The Sunday Times. “The Sport Classic manages to be the quickest manual in the Porsche stable, yet easy-going enough to take to the shops. Buy it in the understated grey that was the favourite of Steve McQueen, Hollywood actor and 911 enthusiast."
The Legend Award from The Sun celebrates models that have stood the test of time and become automotive icons in the UK. When the 911 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963, none could have foreseen that the distinctive shape, rewarding driving dynamics and surprising every day usability would go on to make it an icon – least of all The Sun newspaper, which was first published in September 1964.
In its current ‘Type 992’ iteration, the 911 is available in coupé, cabriolet, and Targa body styles. The range stretches from the 385 PS Carrera to the 650 PS Turbo S, track-focused GT3 RS, and all-terrain Dakar, giving it an unparalleled breadth of capability. Yet each and every 911 model remains true to its original ethos – a rear-engine sports car combining exceptional driving dynamics with style and everyday practicality.

For Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) range and Equivalent All Electric Range (EAER) figures are determined with the battery fully charged, using a combination of both battery power and fuel.
Values are provided for comparison only. To the extent that fuel and energy consumption or CO₂ values are given as ranges, these do not relate to a single, individual car and do not constitute part of the offer. Optional features and accessories can change relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics which may result in a change in fuel or energy consumption and CO₂ values. Vehicle loading, topography, weather and traffic conditions, as well as individual driving styles, can all affect the actual fuel consumption, energy consumption, electrical range, and CO₂ emissions of a car.
